Sidekick 3 Streams Music? New Details Emerge from Possible Manual Copy

The following is reportedly a piece of text from the Sidekick 3 user manual. I can't speak to the legitimacy, but it sounds interesting so I thought I would share it. If this is true regarding streaming, we have ourselves a winner here as that would be a big deal. This potentially answers a lot of questions I have been getting. Additionally, stay tuned for some new details from a current Sidekick 3 user.

---------------from the Hiptop 3 by Danger Manual---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Web Browser has been improved since the Hiptop 2. New features, such as streaming audio, video playback and image saving has now been implemented. Along with EDGE, browsing is now 5 times faster than on the Hiptop 2.

Images
Images can now be saved onto the mini-SD card that comes with your Hiptop 3.
How to save images:
1. Using the trackball, simply run the mouse over to an image and press the Menu button on your Hiptop 3.
2. In the menu options, choose “Save Image.”
3. A file menu will come up. Type in a name and click the Save button to save the image to the mini-SD card
Videos
The new web browser can view AVI and MPG videos. You cannot save video streams yet as that feature may be added on later.
How to play videos:
When asked for a player, choose “Windows Media Player” and click the OK button.
Streams
The Hiptop 3's web browser can now stream music on the device. This includes MP3, OGG, WMA and MIDI. Music can be streamed from anywhere on the Internet. You can even save the MP3 streams onto the mini-SD card! MIDI can be saved onto the mini-SD card and saved as ringtones.

Before the music starts playing on an MP3 or MIDI stream, a window will pop-up asking if you want to save the stream. If yes, then choose a folder to save it to and click the Save button. The window can be avoided by opening the Menu, clicking Settings and under the settings, click on the “Suppress Stream Saving” checkbox.

If that's actually the user manual I would fire their documentation writer. I call fake.

I am 1st. This is SO fake. The SK3 will not have Windows Media Player on it.

This "Manual copy" is total bullshit. This is so unprofessional-sounding that I can't believe it even got posted? User manuals never reflect on how an old device had fewer features--it always just focuses on the current features.

"The Web Browser has been improved since the Hiptop 2. New features, such as streaming audio, video playback and image saving has now been implemented. Along with EDGE, browsing is now 5 times faster than on the Hiptop 2." 5 times faster? That sounds totally professional. This is so fake.

Saving streams? Doesn't seem legit. The RIAA would be all over that like white on rice on a polar bear in a snowstorm. If ya know what I mean.

Keep up the good work BSD (jaypea)

Just curious.
How is a non-windows device going to get WMP?
Isn't it hard enough to find open sourced programs that support .wm* formats?
I'm calling BS on this site
Er
Post.

Good news. Very, very good news.

At 2:32 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Wow!

That seems very cool!
But, I DO wonder how much the price of the services will be.
As in the current "Sidekick Plan" with the Unlimited Text, E-Mail, and Internet.
How much will it be with EDGE?
Will it be the same or more?
Cheaper maybe?
I am assuming that the ringtones and applications will be the same price as it is now.
But, the "Music Downloads and/or Streaming".
How much will those be?
Not that I am thinking that someone already knows!
Just for though!
:P

Thanks!

I'm first omg please let this new info be true!

Confirmed FAKE - One, T-Mobile's Sidekick does not refer to itself as a "Hiptop 2" in it's manual, it says Sidekick - I doubt T-Mobile or whoever produces the manual would miss this. Also, it says something about Windows Media Player here, and the Sidekick 3 has been locked so music can ONLY be transfered through the service provided with the Sidekick (Although you can transfer up to 100 songs at a time from another program like iTunes or WMP.)

Nice try, but your source is fake.

i hope its true.. the new Sidekick needs to come out before July...

At 2:49 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

im first again. anyways does that mean that the sidekick III will be able to play videos online??? if that were true (which we all wont know untill we get it) that would be the shit. that is one of the big improvements that i was hoping came out on the new sidekick III.

At 2:51 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

1st Yay. Just kidding, that's pretty lame. Just wanted to do it. It would be nice if all that were true. Really would, but we will have to wait and see.

At 2:53 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Haha! i'm first. This streaming audio sounds hot! We're still waiting!

At 3:11 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

i wish i had a nickel for all the people on this post that thought they made the first comment...

i think it is fake for many reasons, mostly because a manual wouldn't say "You cannot save video streams yet as that feature may be added on later."

fake.

There is no way this is real manual copy.

Manuals for products do not compare themselves with previous products, period.

At 3:45 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Once again, another fake. Danger will NEVER use Windows Media Player. That was the 1st give away. The 2nd was the poor grammar. Good game.

doesn't sound remotely legit. BTW - dropped into a tmo store today and the rep said "4th quarter" However, he clearly seemed to be pulling that out of his a$$.

At 3:51 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

If it is to up grade it must support video and music of all types and e high speed internet, off course. That`s what I hope. I have Sidekick 2 and am also wating for the 3 to come up. i love this phones. I got to this blog by searching on google. I found it very nice! Thank You!! It is not going to run Windows Mobile by Microsoft, right? I hope not.

At 4:05 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Its funny when like 10 ppl say there first..u all are stupid

At 4:19 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

To the people who believe WMP will exist on this device: LOL. Can you imagine the licensing nonsense Danger/T-MO would have to go through with MS to get this done? Why!?!?! I think we'll be lucky to keep polyphonic ring tones. And what about ring-back tones?

This is FAKE.

Oh yeah, I heard somewhere from a reputable T-Mobile sales guy that it will also include Windows Movie Maker and a 100 GB hard drive option that clips in to the USB port and includes and extra battery that will let the whole deal snap into the battery pack. (Not a bad idea, really. . .)

The part where it says "You cannot save video streams yet as that feature may be added on later" just says it all.how the hell would they go about updating the sidekick if it does come out in late june? like it just doesnt seem true.

For all you people wondering why everyone is posting that they're first, It's because BSD reviews every post and then approves them. And if the post gets approved, then and only then will it show up on the blog.

Hey I have a Really Good Question, 1st I would like to Type that this Site is Fucking Awsome, now to Business. I'm a Loyal and DieHardFan of the Sidekick series I had the CSK(ColorSideKick) and as I was anxiously waiting for the release of the SidekickII I got Word that all CSK users would Receive an eMail Stating that we would have 1st Dibs on the SkII and in a Couple of days in no Particular Order we all would Receive a Call asking if we wanted to Trade in our Current CSK in exchange for a $100 off the SkII but with that u had to Sign a 2yr Contract. Now this allowed current CSK useres to have the SkII before the actual release date, if everyone is Speculating that the Sidekick3 is going to be Released on June 23rd then we as SkII users would More than Likely have gotten their eMail and PhoneCall by now in order to have it before the Public does ya know? So can some one help me please, hit me on AIM at: likwitfreak plz...

Fake but someone noted you would only be able to play music you download from their music service. If thats true it would be the first phone that wouldn't let you put your own mp3s on.

To quote Ron Burgundy, thats just dumb.

At 5:35 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

This is totally fictitious. As much as I would like to see some of these features, there's no way this copy was written by Danger, for reasons well-stated above.

Interesting, though... something I hadn't thought of yet: It's quite likely that a MiniSD card (at least a small one) will accompany the SideKick III in the box.

Guess that'll save me a little money on the BlueTooth-Earpiece-Extra Charger-Extra-Battery purchase that will surely follow. :) I wonder what else might be in the box?

At 5:46 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

why does everyone care if they are first? seriously. your comments dont get posted til BSD approves so even if you dont see any comments, dont think youre first.

At 6:30 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

This is CLEARLY fake. On the video part, it says open windows media player.

WTF??? So now people are saying that the sidekick 3 will have windows on it? That's simply riddiculus.

It's sad that you would even consider this remotely accurate, BSD.

While I agree that this looks like BS... you do realize that TMobile isnt the only company that sells the sidekick/hiptop dont you? You realize that the other companies call it the Hiptop and not the sidekick right? Nowhere in the "user manual" passage we see here does it specify that its from the TMobile manual. So no, its not CONFIRMED fake... Its just most likely fake.
