Sidekick 3 Bomb #2: No Video At Launch, But it's Coming
The second bomb is that the Sidekick 3 has no video, but it is coming. Here's the deal as I understand it, video playback is not built into the Sidekick 3 at launch, but I am told a video player will be available by year end in the Sidekick after an OS upgrade and an over the air application download for the player. The question is, will this hurt sales in the short term? Does anyone expect the Sidekick 3 to play video? It seems with a Mini SD card and the ability to store all kinds of short films, home videos, etc people will want video playback but the question is will the hope of video later in the year be enough?

I am sure there will be video after an upgrade of software over the air.
First..that kinda sucks cuz my Razr has video and it is not as advanced as the Sidekick.
what does an upgrade over the air mean, exactly?
video player only or also video recorder?
Screw that I tired of waiting and all these features are being left out. I bought the Blackberry 8700g from T-Mobile and I'm loving it. Time to sell the Sidekick 2 on Ebay!
What about mp3 playback? Will the S3 support music?
This is what was impacting my decision on getting the Sidekick III. I use the video feature a lot on my current phone and was really hoping the Sidekick would have this feature already on the phone. I guess my dilemma continues...
its worth the wait... give me my sidekick3 now!!
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
hopefully there will be video as the sk3 seems like it's not as up-to-date as some phones that are out right now.
But yes, video would be nice.
do you know if you can play videos from websites like youtube? after the video update
I am still going to upgrade when the skiii comes out
I don't care if it has video or not. It's not like I plan on watching movies on the little tiny Sidekick screen.
Just release the damn thing already!
Like it said in the post....
This seems more speculative than anything else--unless, of course, you can cite your sources.
The video will come out with the upgrade around Q3. I just want to know if anyone answer if the SK3 will be in black not Mr. Cartoon, but T-mobile black..or would that be competition with Mr. Cartoon...can't stand the juicy SKII.
Who cares about the video...damn its not a video camera get over it!!
so if u buy a sidekick now and wait for the download you will get the video player?
we cant get over the video on the sk3, most teens looked forward on having that on it espicially me, i want to b able to capture moving stuff on a sk3. but i jus hope there will b an upgrade once it comes out
This is great news. I'll own the SK3 for at least 2 years, so waiting a couple months is no problem.
I thing that is going to be kool! I guess they are waiting for T-mobile to go 3g! lol wich might be at the end of this year lol *hoping* so that the network can take all that stress. lets just hope it dose not take them till 07 to lanch 3g
Lack of video is weak as all hell.
this wont go live for some time, or at least untill Aug. b/c the fcc has moved "Auction 66" to Aug. 9th and T-mobile is said to buy lots of Mhz so that the network can support video, and not crash LMAO!
hahaha we waited 2 years for old ass technology fu*k t mobile
I hope that you would be able to view "videos" in-youtube.com, video.googe.com, and myspace.com- with the SidekIck 3 web brower?
does anyone know if you would be able to?
Danger is not known for putting the "latest" thing in their phone. If they were, then Bluetooth and an MP3 player would have been in the SK *2*. On the other hand, Danger is known for its effortless easy to use *communication/data* operating system. Its a flawless communication device and executes applications, etc. in a manner that devices such as the Blackberry, Treo and certainly the MDA cant even dream of doing.
From the CSK to the SK2 we got a sleeker look, shoulder buttons and an over all ergonomically better device as well as a camera. This time we get everything we love about the flawless SK 2 with a better camera, MP3 player and Bluetooth in a smaller sleeker looking package. I could go out on a limb and say that I am surprised that we got this many new "toys" this time around. While Im willing to bet that the SK3 was built with at least the possibility of video capability, Im not holding my breath. All of that stuff is just the cherry on the cake. The cake being the great operating system.
First off you have to understand market expectations. Currently, most phones, even the most basic, include video recording and playback. The only things that made sidekick ii outdated were lack of bluetooth, mp3/mp4 playback. They got 2/3 right, but to come to short after such a long wait is inexcuseable. They made it EDGE ready before they even added something as basic as a video function. They also didn't make the resolution worldly better for having a 1.3 Megapic camera, which is a shame.
I for one am thrilled over the addition of MSN messenger. However, I can get that on an MDA, which also rocks Windows Mobile and a touch screen. Its PSP, DS, and Sidekick all in 1.
For someone who waited so long for this to be released, I am incredibly dissappointed. Video is too basic to leave out and far too important in my life to ignore.
Who watches movies on tiny screens?
Go search PsP sales on yahoo.com and tell me what you think then.

Do the FCC docs say anything about there being a video card even installed on the device? I hate to say it, but I'm not expecting a lot out of this update. I'll still get the SK3 because I'm happy with the improvements from II anyway... you can't have it all I guess, but I'm satisfied.
If anyone can confirm that there is a video card, that would be great... software/OS updates alone won't cause a device to support video if the hardware isn't prepared for it.
I meant TRI-BAND.
i agree, the sk3 is crazy for not going to have video.... and i hate how high tech the sk2 is and it had such a crappy camera and the lack of video and bluetooth :( but like many of you, i too will be gettin the sk3 probably cuz im a sucker for cool lookin electronics
